  1. According to some of the newest observations, the larger and higher magnetic 
  2. loops are believed to hold down the newer and smaller fields emerging from the 
  3. surface. They also tie down the hot plasma carried by those fields. This causes 
  4. tremendous energy to build. Eventually, some of the overlying magnetic loops 
  5. merge and cancel each other, cutting a hole in the magnetic net and allowing the 
  6. coronal mass ejection (CME) to escape at high speed.
  7. The corona extends outward as solar wind.

  9. Coronal holes are gaps in the corona, regions of reduced emission, reduced 
  10. density, and increased speed. Coronal plumes are glowing matter suspended in the 
  11. corona above Sun's polar regions. They are to be seen around north and south

  13. Coronal streamers are long features in the corona above the Sun's equatorial 
  14. region.
